Rising Moon Press is a small press that welcomes submissions for small chapbooks and small-sized books of less than 200 pages from poets and writers in the United States. Our specialty is limited edition small artistic books of poetry or zines, although we may be able to work on other projects. Please contact us with your ideas.
What We Want: We want work with depth, dignity, and creativity. We are open to all forms of poetic expression. However, work with emotional content; work that makes us feel something. Something beautiful, something “real”, something that will make us ruminate is of particular interest.
Poetry: All forms of poetry are encouraged. Experimentation is encouraged. Please send no more than three poems per submission, with a combined word count no higher than 2,000 words. Shorter poems are preferred over lengthy poems.
Fiction: While there are no limits to form, please submit only one short story of 3,000 words or less.
Creative Nonfiction: We accept non-fiction stories written through a literary lens. Please submit no more than one non-fiction piece of no more than 3,000 words. Writers must be prepared to support their story and assist, if necessary, with verifying statements of fact. The writer assumes all responsibility for inaccuracies. We will do our best to make sure that no one will be harmed in the publishing of a true story, but it is up to the writer to avoid slander and untrue statements.
How To Submit & Response Time:
All submissions are to be formatted in Word doc. format ONLY to email@example.com. If you are unable to use this format, please contact us prior to submission. Please provide cover sheet with appropriate category and identifying information for your work.
You may include a 100-150 word bio in the third person in your cover letter.
Response time can vary from an immediate response to as long as six months given the number of submissions. We have a very small staff.
Rising Moon Press takes one-time non-exclusive rights to your work
Accepted submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, and punctuation. We will not make large changes without first providing you with a proof for your review prior to publication.
Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know if a piece is published elsewhere. Be sure to formally withdraw the piece(s).
We do not mail out contracts. By submitting to us you are agreeing to the above terms.
Payment: Currently there is no payment for publication of individual accepted works. We are working on this.
Please read our submission guidelines for an idea of what kind of work we publish.
There are publishing fees for the manufacturing and publication of creative artistic limited edition books on an individual contract agreement.
